While I was visiting Rome in the summer of 2017, I had access to the rooftop bar at the Hotel Albergo Del Senato, located in the Piazza Della Rotonda. When the waiter came to take my order, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to drink. I knew I wanted something sweet yet cool and refreshing. My waiter Marco asked what flavours I liked; I told him I love strawberries and a bit of mint. His reply was, “Ti farò qualcosa che amerai, fidati di me” translation “I will make you something you will love, trust me.” I am so glad I did.
Marco soon returned with this beautiful read bubbly drink in a large glass. After having a sip, I asked him what it was called. He said he just made it up, and it has strawberries, fresh mint with a bit of Prosecco. “Let us give it a name” Marco, sat down with me. We discussed a few names such as, Summer Love, The Heart of Italia, Strawberry Bliss, Mediterranean Heat.  After a while, we just started talking, and I told him I can see how easy it is to fall in love with Roma; it is such a beautiful city. When he snapped his fingers and said, that is it, I will call it “Amore Romano.” We both laughed about how perfect it was. After Marco got me another drink, it was time for him to go back to work.

The Recipe

A light refreshing adult beverage to take you away to the shores of the Mediterranean.

Mortar and Pedestal
Martini Shaker
